Terra is a collaboration between fiber artist Wendy Osterweil and photographer, Gabrielle Russomagno. The work investigates the surface of the earth in areas most likely to be negatively impacted by global warming, as a metaphor for the physical and interior self, in particular fragility, uniqueness, and emotional resonance. Russomagno re-contextualized NASA satellite images of the earth, that were coupled with hand silk-screened organza veils used as overlays for the photographs.
Both artists have worked historically with metaphor and political themes. Terra is their first collaboration together. These art works were made expressly for the exhibition entitled, Hot Topic: Meditations on Global Warming.
